7 Crucial Reasons to Take New Year Resolutions Seriously

I’ll admit … as a change expert and licensed therapist, I’m biased! I believe any opportunity not taken to grow is a lost opportunity. The New Year is one of the best times to take the leap toward a better life and better relationships.

New Year Resolution

Let me share  7 Crucial Reasons to Take New Year Resolutions Seriously this and every year.

1.  Resolutions are Crucial for Self Care

People invest in what they value most! Resolutions aim you. When you invest time and energy into your life and relationships, you’re caring for what should be most important to you. The first crucial reason to take New Year resolutions seriously is they keep you focused on whats most important – you and your relationships.

2.  Resolutions are Crucial to a Better You

Who doesn’t want to better their life and relationships? People are meant to develop and grow throughout their lives. Without purpose, people tend to become depressed. Resolutions are a battle cry that you’re not giving up and that you want more. The second crucial reason to take New Year resolutions seriously is they enable you to get better.

3.  Resolutions are Crucial to Stay Positive

Positive thinkers tend to make resolutions. They also tend to achieve them. Why is that? It’s because positive thoughts, like negative thoughts, are incredibly powerful.

“Self Fulfilling Prophecies” are created by deep beliefs people have about what they think is going to happen. It’s almost magical how it happens, but it’s not–it’s actually science. The third crucial reason to take New Year resolutions seriously is to be positive minded so positive things happen for you.

4.  Resolutions are Crucial for a Strong Mind

Do you have a strong “will”?  A strong “will” powers you to do the right thing when faced with the temptation to do what’s easier.

A person’s “will” is their mental muscle. Resolutions allow you to flex your ‘will’ to forgo temptations, which strengthens your mind. The stronger your “will”, the more you’re able to accomplish. The fourth crucial reason to take New Year resolutions seriously is they exercise your ‘will’ and strengthen your mind.

5.  Resolutions are Crucial to Stay in Charge of Your Life

People become what they do. ‘Do’ anything often enough over a long period of time, and you will become what you do. Resolutions are about doing things differently. By making resolutions, you are taking an active role in shaping your life and relationships. The fifth crucial reason to take New Year resolutions seriously is to stay in charge of your life.

6.  Resolutions are Crucial to Avoid Getting Stuck

People that are stuck often feel lost and struggle with direction. Resolutions are like a destination on a map. They provide guidance and purpose. Without resolutions, people tend to stay stuck in familiar ways of thinking and acting. The sixth crucial reason to take New Year resolutions seriously is they keep you from getting stuck.

7.  Resolutions are Crucial for Failure … and that is Good

WHAT??? Yes, most likely you will fail to do what you resolved to do. That’s okay! Learning how to fail ‘well’ is critical if you want to grow. You will never achieve your true potential if you can’t handle failure.

Failure is an opportunity, not an ending. Failures build strength and toughen us if we let them. Failure teaches us to do things differently. Failing ‘well’ is learning from mistakes and not giving up. The seventh crucial reason to take New Year resolutions seriously is to learn how to fail ‘well’, which is a necessary ingredient to become your best.
